Airbags and Seatbelts May Protect Your Face Significantly in the Event of a Severe Car Accident

Washington, DC Car AccidentBeing involved in any kind of a car accident can be nerve wracking. If you have recently been injured in a car accident in New Jersey, you need to consult with a medical professional to ensure the full extent of your injuries and you also need to speak with a New Jersey personal injury attorney.

There are many different kinds of injuries you can sustain in an accident like this, including:

  • Broken bones
  • Fractures
  • Lacerations
  • Internal bleeding and organ damage
  • Spinal, brain and neck injury

Any of these injuries can have significant repercussions for your life, making it difficult for you to return to work or maintain your life as it was prior to the accident. This is why New Jersey personal injury law empowers individuals to file personal injury claims to recover compensation from negligent individuals.

If someone else was texting behind the wheel, tired behind the wheel or otherwise reckless and broke the laws of the state of New Jersey, you may be entitled to recover compensation. One of the most devastating injuries associated with common car accidents in New Jersey has to do with injuries to your face.

A new research study identifies that safety tools like airbags and seat-belts can be critical for minimizing the risk of a facial fracture in the event of a car accident.

The study was conducted at the University of Wisconsin and identified that having an airbag decreased the chance of a facial fracture by as high as 18%, while using a seat-belt reduced the likelihood by 43%. Using both together decreases the chance of a severe facial fracture by more than 50%.

In order to determine these findings, research project managers looked at data from 2007 to 2012, exploring the cases of more than 518,000 individuals who visited a trauma center after a motor vehicle accident.

More than 56,000 of those individuals, or just over 10% of those involved in the study, sustained facial fractures. Mid-face and nasal fractures were the most common.

The individuals most likely to sustain this kind of injury were those who did not use or have the safety tools of airbags or seat belts in their vehicle as well as younger males. For individuals who did sustain a facial fracture in a car accident anywhere in the country, approximately 3 out of every 5 had no safety device.

Slightly more than one quarter only had a seat belt, while 6% had only airbags and less than 7% had both. Suffering a facial fracture can be devastating for an individual who has recently been involved in an accident.

If you have recently been involved in a car accident in New Jersey, you need to consult with an experienced attorney as soon as possible to protect your rights.

Many individuals do not realize just how much a car accident can influence their life. A severe accident may require numerous types of treatment like surgery or physical therapy for many years to come. Partnering with a New Jersey personal injury attorney who is dedicated to representing your interest is essential in the event that you have recently been injured.

You may be entitled to recover compensation but this is never a road you should go down alone. An experienced New Jersey personal injury attorney can evaluate your case and tell you what you need to expect if you decide to move forward with filing a claim.

A personal injury claim may be the only way for you to recover compensation associated with your severe injuries. If you have been unable to return to work or find that physical activity is difficult, if not impossible, after a severe car accident, you need to speak to someone who can help protect your rights and hold the negligent party accountable in court.
